 Food Sufficiency: A’Ibom Govt To Rear 2000 Cattle In Uruan
as 3 Investors line up to take over moribund Akwa Palm Industries

Akwa Ibom State government has set a target of 2000 cattle to be reared between now and 2018. Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Sufficiency, Dr. Uduak Udo Inyang, made the disclosure, tuesday, while defending the 2017 budget of the ministry at the State House of Assembly.

Briefing the members of the House committee on Appropriation and Finance on steps taken by taken the Udom Emmanuel administration to make the state self sustaining in meat production, the Commissioner who made a case for increased budgetary provision to his ministry to enable it execute capital projects and programmes outlined in this year’s budget for the agricultural sector.

He disclosed that government intends to establish a cattle ranch at Adadia in Uruan, and will open the facility with 1000 cattle in this year, while another 1000 cattle would be added in the next year running.

He cited inadequate release of funds for capital projects in the ministry, poor working facilities and environment as major cause of the ministry’s inability to meet her set target in the 2016 budget.

Answering questions from the committee Chairman on the current state of the moribund Akwa Palm Industries Ltd at Esit -Eket, Dr. Udoinyang revealed that three private investors have indicated interest in taking over the facility.

Chairman of the House committee on Appropriation and Finance, Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh in his reaction urged the ministry to work assiduously towards ensuring that governor Udom Emmanuel succeeds in the delivery of his campaign promises to the people of the state.

He reiterated the resolve of the legislature to partner the executive to enable it realize it’s set objectives and target in the 2017 budget.
